Common Sheng Ji Scam Types
Scam Type 1: No Real Dragon Vein — Just Theatrical Performance
The most common Sheng Ji scam involves claiming to have a dragon vein plot while actually performing rituals on ordinary land or even indoors. Without a genuine dragon vein, there is no earth qi to channel — the entire premise of Sheng Ji collapses. These operators typically charge low fees (a few thousand to tens of thousands RMB) to attract clients, but deliver no energetic value.
Scam Type 2: Unverifiable Taoist Lineage
Legitimate Sheng Ji ceremonies must be officiated by a Taoist master with a clear, documented ordination lineage. Many operators claim to be 'masters' with 'family-inherited' abilities but cannot produce any verifiable ordination record, temple affiliation, or lineage documentation.
Scam Type 3: Refusing to Provide Full Ceremony Video
Any genuine Sheng Ji provider films the complete ceremony and willingly shares unedited footage with prospective clients before payment. Any operator who refuses — citing 'ritual confidentiality' or 'trade secrets' — should be immediately disqualified. There is nothing to hide in a legitimate ceremony.
5 Core Checks to Verify a Sheng Ji Master
Check 1: Taoist Ordination Record — Specific, Named, and Verifiable
Ask for the master's exact ordination details: date, ordaining authority, lineage name, and Taoist title. For reference, Master Lin Jia-Hua was ordained in 2007 by the 64th Zhang Tianshi (Zhang Yuan-Xian) into the Wan Fa Zong Tan, within the Lü Shan lineage of the Jing Ming Zong, with the Taoist name Lin Yi Chan. This level of specificity should be the minimum standard.
Check 2: Real Dragon Vein Land — Documented Ownership
Request proof of land ownership or usage rights for the claimed dragon vein plot, along with on-site video showing the specific location, surrounding terrain, and Feng Shui formation (mountain origin, water configuration). The Fu Gui Shuang Quan plot used by Master Lin can be described in precise classical Feng Shui terms: origin at Guanyin Mountain, San Tai Xing formation, three-river counter-current water configuration.
Checks 3–5: Client Videos, Verifiable Public Record & Transparent Fees
Request multiple full-length, unedited ceremony videos from previous clients (not marketing compilations). Search the master's name online for independent media coverage, industry association records or historical mentions — Master Lin Zhi-Ying's 2006 'Global Top 100 Yi Studies Figures' recognition from the International Yi Studies Federation is publicly verifiable. Confirm that the full fee is stated upfront with no hidden charges or post-ceremony 'top-up' requests.
